On Saturday 19 September, residents of Raalte, Heeten and Broekland took action during World Cleanup Day. Volunteer groups, members of Lions Club Raalte, ploggers, walkers, runners, Anny Legebeke-Holtmaat as climate mayor of Raalte and Emilio the butterfly man all worked together for a clean and liveable area.

Plenty of litter was collected during the clean-up. There were some remarkable finds along the way, from coffee cups and dog waste bags to bicycle parts and a veritable paradise of cigarette butts. In Heeten the streets were so clean that volunteers went on to polish the bottle banks.

In Raalte-Noord action followed at once when volunteers came across litter at a shopping centre. Together with the staff there, the spot was cleared straight away.

Lions Club Raalte supported the groups taking part with equipment such as litter pickers, clamps and rubbish bags. The litter collected was handed in at the fire station in Raalte. The Lions then saw to it that it went on to ROVA.

The day showed once again how much we can achieve when residents, volunteers, local initiatives and community organisations work together for a cleaner and more liveable Salland. We will do it again next year. And then Heino will join in as well.

Thank you to everyone who lent a hand!
